QUICK!  Can you answer these questions RIGHT NOW?
[Free Trial through March 30th, 2008! Scroll down...]

  • How much bandwidth are we using and when do we need to get more?
  • Are our backups working? How many files are being backed up?  Is that number consistent from day-to-day?
  • How reliable are our servers?  Did we get what we paid for?  Are there any underlying hardware issues we need to know about?
  • Is our website continuously available?
  • Is our Microsoft Exchange database healthy?  Is it going to fill up soon?  How many licenses are we using compared to the number we have purchased?
  • Has anyone installed BitTorrent?
  • Are people bringing in unauthorized storage devices from home, potentially leading to information leakage?
  • Is our firewall trying to tell us that there have been unauthorized attempts to hack into our network?  Are we listening?
  • The Internet connection slows down a lot during the day; can we tell what devices are using up the bandwidth?  (And no, we're not just talking about web traffic...)
  • Is our virus protection system working across the board?   Do we trust our virus protection system console alone to tell us this?
  • Are critical updates completely up-to-date on all servers and workstations?
  • When will our printers run out of toner?  When will they need new fusers or drums?  How many pages have they printed?   When should they be replaced?
  • Are there more copies of Microsoft Office running on the network than we've purchased licenses for?
  • When are our warranties up on every workstation?
  • How much CPU capacity does our server have available if we want to put virtualized images on it?
  • Are we going to run out of disk space soon?
  • Do we have a comprehensive list of workstation & server serial numbers for warranty purposes?  Is it completely up to date?
  • Do our workstations all have enough memory?  Is it impacting end-user performance?  At what point does it cost us more not to upgrade?
  • Are server temperatures, RAID arrays, power supplies and fans in all of our servers within acceptable limits right now?
  • Has hardware been removed/added/replaced in workstations without authorization?
